In response to Government plans to force pensioners to use banks rather than post office accounts, Philip Dunne calls for the Government to recognise that in many rural areas there are no banks and the Post Office is the only option.

Mr. Philip Dunne (Ludlow) (Con): Just to endorse the point about rural areas, there is not just a lack of banks, but a lack of alternative provision of any kind in many villages. In my constituency, the sub-post office is the last thing left; it is the last place for social, let alone commercial, activity.

Mr. Mudie : The hon. Gentleman makes a very relevant point.
