Speaking on Friday to a packed audience at Davenport House in Worfield near Bridgnorth, the former leader of the Conservative Party told how he expects the tide to turn back towards the Conservatives at the next General Election as the electorate seek to get rid of the distrusted Labour Government.

"I can honestly say that anyone who cares to read the latest Lib-Dem policies, as I have, would be hard pressed to tell them apart from an old Labour manifesto: 40 tax rises; sign away more powers to Europe; sign up to the euro; sign away local democracy to regional assemblies. When the electorate understand what the Lib-Dems are for, rather than what they claim to be against, I predict the current bubble of by-election support will burst.

"I am impressed by the hard work Philip Dunne is putting in to regaining Ludlow. He is an excellent candidate. He lives locally which is a long standing tradition of Members of Parliament for Ludlow. He has a farming background and first class business experience. He will have a great deal to offer when we are back in Government.

"Only by voting Conservative can the people get rid of this distrusted Labour government."

Philip Dunne added today: "William Hague's visit was a great morale booster He spoke with great wit and authority. He has helped galvanise our supporters around Bridgnorth for the challenge ahead."
