Philip Dunne joined other local MPs who yesterday met Secretary of state for Defence Des Browne with MOD officials to argue the case for RAF Cosford in the defence training review.Philip Dunne MP for Ludlow joined Mark Pritchard MP for Wrekin and Pat McFadden MP for Wolverhampton South East who yesterday met Secretary of state for Defence Des Browne with MOD officials to argue the case for RAF Cosford in the defence training review.

The Secretary of State confirmed that, contrary to widespread speculation, no decision had yet been made between the rival bids to locate tri-service training at Cosford or St Athan in Wales. He also said a decision would be taken at or around the year end, not later this month as previously expected.

Mr Dunne said: "The Secretary of State sought to reassure us that a proper process is being pursued. We presented the case for Cosford directly to the Secretary of State. We reminded him that the decision is crucial for our area and will be closely scrutinised. Quite properly he gave nothing away. Let us hope the right decision will now be made."
