Philip Dunne comments on Shrewsbury Town's play-off match at WembleyCommenting on Shrewsbury Town's play-off match at Wembley on Saturday, Ludlow MP Philip Dunne said:

"It was a great achievement for Shrewsbury Town to get to Wembley for the League 2 play-offs. To watch the county's top team play in the new stadium was an unforgettable experience for all 61,589 people present.

I took my two boys. We had a great trip. We met folk from all over Shropshire and across the Ludlow constituency. It seemed half of Shropshire went to Wembley.

The match came alive from the start, with Stewart Drummond's goal in the third minute. Shrewsbury had the run of the play in the first half. But Bristol Rovers took advantage of the breaks they had and scored twice before half-time. The second half had missed opportunities and then an unfortunate sending off leading to Shrewsbury leaving an open goal in the final minute.

It was a sad end to a good match. It is a shame Shrewsbury Town won't be playing in a new league at their new stadium next season. But they have now played at the new Wembley and given all football fans in Shropshire a great way to end the season."
