Commenting on plans for Much Wenlock's place in London 2012 Olympics and its enduring legacy, local MP Philip Dunne who has been active in promoting Much Wenlock's case, said today: "I am working closely with the Wenlock Olympian Society and others to persuade the London Organising Committee for the 2012 Games to recognise the historic inspiration which Much Wenlock has played in development of the modern Olympic Games. Encouraging progress is being made.

I am hopeful that we shall be able to secure an appropriate role for Much Wenlock in the build up to the Games. I am also hopeful that we will be able to secure an enduring legacy to complement and enhance the town's reputation for amateur sport.

It is too early to say what this will be and whether it will include upgrading sporting facilities in the town. What I can say, however, is that a great deal of thought is going in to what might be feasible and lobbying in the right quarters to get a fair share for Much Wenlock."
