Following the successful launch of the Ludlow Poultry & Bird Forum in March, Philip Dunne MP has invited Norman Page from the State Veterinary Service in Worcester to speak at the next meeting to be held this Friday, 19th May 2006 at the Coor's Stadium in Ludlow at 6.30pm.

Mr Page will give a presentation on notifiable disease control in Britain and his colleague, Helen McKee, a Veterinary Officer will speak on the development of Avian Influenza contingency measures, followed by an open discussion.

The event is being generously sponsored by David Evans of Cyril Bason in Craven Arms and Russell Williams, a local poultry farmer.

As explained at the last meeting, an annual subscription of £5 will be levied on entry to help cover costs, and volunteers will be sought to help run and organise the forum.

Philip Dunne MP who organised the inaugural meeting of the Ludlow Poultry & Bird Forum said today: "We had a well attended meeting, reflecting concern here in Shropshire about Avian Influenza. All sorts of bird keepers were represented, from those with a few hens in the backyard, to specialist raptor and rare breed collectors, game bird rearers right up to commercial poultry growers and hatchers. With two separate strains of Bird Flu having been confirmed on the east side of the UK, there is every reason for those involved in keeping birds to be informed of the latest official guidance and views on what measures can be taken to prevent exposure to this disease."
