Mr Dunne opened the debate by congratulating Ludlow Town Council and Shropshire County Council for introducing a residents parking scheme as a serious attempt to resolve parking issues in the centre of Ludlow. He was, however, critical of the District Council for its lack of leadership despite its ownership of the town's three principal off-street car parks. He had called the debate at this stage since many residents had raised issues which he wished the Council to consider and to raise with the County Council while there was still time to amend aspects before final implementation in November.

Cllr. Dunne said: "I raised half a dozen of the main problems which residents have identified now that the detailed workings of this scheme are becoming apparent. The County Council has been responsive to some suggested changes. Unfortunately there was a predictable reaction from Lib-Dem councillors representing Ludlow who seemed to ignore legitimate worries about the scheme and preferred to make petty political points."

"I hope the County Council will take on board many of these constructive suggestions to make sure we have an efficient and fair a residents parking scheme as possible to balance the conflicting interests."
