Philip Dunne comments on Shropshire County Council's decision to suspend parking charges in Ludlow for a month.Commenting on Shropshire County Council's decision to suspend parking charges in Ludlow for a month, Ludlow's MP Philip Dunne, who is also District Councillor for Ludlow town centre, said today:

"I am pleased the County Council has taken the common sense course of suspending charges over this busy Christmas season in response to teething troubles with the parking meters and concerns from traders.

As introduction of the new residents parking scheme was delayed until the start of the Christmas trading period, it was always going to be tough to introduce such a major change to the parking regime in Ludlow at this time of the year.

Many of the new parking meters are not working properly and the manufacturers will be fixing the fault at their expense.

The County Council is to be congratulated for reacting quickly and pragmatically to these problems.

The extra month's free on street parking in Ludlow should encourage Christmas shoppers back into the town centre."
