Those who are elected should listen to their electorate. For the second year running I have undertaken a survey of all who voted in the Ludlow Constituency.

Over 38,300 surveys were sent out and 6480 have been returned - a 16.9% response rate. I am very pleased with this level of reply, beating even last year's 15%. Using email and my new www.tellphilip.com website has undoubtedly increased feedback.

It find it enormously helpful to understand the concerns of those I represent, of all parties and none. I will be publishing full results soon.

On the topical issue of Tony Blair as Prime Minister, a remarkable 65% of those who replied want him gone before the New Year. An astonishing 73% of Labour voters want to see the back of Mr Blair by next May's local elections.

Gordon Brown is a clear favourite to take over as Labour Leader amongst Labour voters, with 51% support, and only John Reid mounting any serious challenge with 27%. But amongst voters as a whole, John Reid is breathing down Gordon Brown's neck.

The other shock result has been the poor showing of Menzies Campbell amongst Lib-Dem voters, less than 20% of whom believe he would make the best Prime Minister, compared with David Cameron (50%) or Gordon Brown (30%).

My survey suggests David Cameron is clearly winning support from both Liberal Democrat and Labour voters. Surprisingly a third of Labour voters preferred Cameron to be PM over Brown.

I am also pleased that all voters in my constituency will now be able to vote in January on whether Shropshire should give up it's existing councils and move to a more remote Unitary Authority.
