Investment in new surgery hub at Princess Royal Hospital, Telford

South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne welcomes latest investment to upgrade elective treatment facilities at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Construction is under way in Telford under a project worth £24m to provide a new care hub for elective surgery, and an upgrade to the main entrance of the hospital.

The new development is expected to be ready by the summer of this year and will provide more theatres and beds. The hub is set to provide dedicated beds to support day case surgery which in turn will increase the number of patients that can be treated on the same day.

Commenting on the announcement the South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne said:

“I am pleased this latest investment in acute services in Telford will lead to a marked improvement in patient care thanks to the upgrades to elective surgery at the Princess Royal Hospital.

“I stood on a manifesto which committed to overhaul hospitals locally to ensure world-class provision of healthcare for NHS patients and staff by replacing outdated infrastructure. This investment is the first part of the major programme for hospital transformation in Shropshire and Telford for a generation, which will secure sustainable state-of-the-art facilities for us here in Shropshire.

“The services which are planned to be delivered at the new facility will be year-round and will help reduce waiting times for surgery.

“As well as increasing elective surgery theatres and a surgery recovery ward, this investment includes plans to upgrade the main entrance to improve access to those visiting the hospital to see family or friends. New retail facilities will also be on offer to those working and visiting the site.”
