Philip Dunne once again questioned the Government's commitment to renewable energyPhilip Dunne, MP for Ludlow, once again questioned the Government's commitment to renewable energy after it was revealed that the UK's flagship programme for encouraging households to install renewable energy systems has run out of money for this month less than 12 hours after funds became available.

The news comes as Mr Dunne urged the Government both last month and in October to make more money available for the Low Carbon Buildings scheme. The scheme aims to encourage conversion to green energy sources. Homeowners can get grants for up to 50% of the cost of installing environmentally friendly solar water heating systems or domestic-scale wind turbines for their homes. But if you want a mini wind turbine, a solar panel or any other piece of micro-renewable kit and need the grant - bad luck. Householders will now have to wait until 1st March to make another application.

Graham Meeks, head of fuel and heat at the UK Renewable Energy Association said that 1st February would be remembered "as the day the Low Carbon Buildings Program finally descended into farce."

Mr Dunne said: "On two separate occasions, I have urged the Government to allocate more money to this worthwhile scheme. It is no surprise that they did not listen and once again this month's grant has run out. I'm afraid the Government's green credentials are fast becoming a farce for homeowners."
