Dunne welcomes progress at Princess Royal Hospital

South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne welcomed the progress being made on the £24 million construction of the new planned care hub at Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford.

This state-of-the-art facility will enhance patient care access by providing additional surgical theatres and recovery areas, enabling more day case surgery, helping to reduce waiting times.

The redevelopment by Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust features four modern theatres, improved recovery areas, and patient consultation pods. Various specialties, including ear, nose, and throat, maxillofacial, gynaecology, breast, orthopaedics, and general surgery, will be supported, ensuring a comprehensive range of services.

The construction of the planned care hub is part of the larger Hospitals Transformation Programme, which seeks to enhance acute hospital services and improve healthcare outcomes for residents of Shropshire. The ongoing upgrade to the main entrance of PRH, including new retail facilities, is also underway and expected to be completed this winter.

Philip Dunne commented:

“I am pleased to see further progress being made with construction of the new planned care hub at Princess Royal Hospital. This investment will not only enhance the healthcare services available to Shropshire residents but also improve the overall patient experience.

“This increased capacity will help reduce waiting times. This is a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to transform healthcare services in Telford and Shropshire.”
