Shropshire County Council recently approved an increase of £650,000 for funding adult social care this year.

Mr Dunne has raised concerns of a number of his constituents who are in need of care but were having difficulty in securing funding, especially for residential placements.

Mr Dunne said: "I am pleased Shropshire County Council have approved further funding out of reserves for the balance of this year for adult social care. Hopefully delays in securing funding for some of the most vulnerable in need of care will now be speeded up.

I have also made representations to the Minister for Health, Ivan Lewis MP, whom I met last month with senior representatives from Shropshire County Council and Owen Paterson MP."

He added: "We explained that Shropshire has a particular problem securing fair funding from central Government, as our proportion of elderly people is much higher than the national average and is also rising far faster, at double the national average rate of increase in fact."

The Minister undertook to review the funding formula with colleagues as part of discussions leading up to the Comprehensive Spending Review for 2008 to 2011 to be published this autumn.
