South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne is encouraging parents and children to embrace reading on World Book Day.
Every year, World Book Day creates bespoke £1 books for children and young adults across the UK and Ireland, to promote the magic of books, the power of imagination and the importance of reading. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.
Mr Dunne, who co-founded the chain of High Street book shops Ottakar’s, over 30 years ago, said:
“As a former bookseller, I am a strong believer that developing a love of reading can help children gain skills for lifelong learning, as well as have a great time reading a good book.
I am proud to support World Book Day, and encourage parents and children in South Shropshire to pick up a book and enjoy reading together.”
