Philip Dunne today highlighted the escalating rise in living costs under Labour.Philip Dunne, MP for Ludlow, today highlighted the escalating rise in living costs under Labour, and as gas prices go through the roof, urged Ofgem to do everything it can to get the best possible deal for all gas consumers in the Ludlow constituency.

Mr Dunne, a member of the Committee of Public Accounts, spoke out as the Committee published a Report on Ofgem, which examined the regulator's approval of the sales of regional networks for distributing gas; the approach to setting prices for gas networks; and its role in overseeing the infrastructure of gas networks.

Mr Dunne accused the Government of not caring about the impact of rising prices on working people. He is backing the new 'Live for Less' campaign that aims to make sure people are getting a fair price for energy.

Mr Dunne said; "The cost of living is going up and up and this Government is only making things worse. They neither care nor try to do anything to fix it. Instead they raise taxes and fail to make sure we get a fair price for our gas.

For the most vulnerable, such as the elderly, the cost of living is rising even faster. The cost of living for many British households is up to four times the Government's published rate of inflation. For many, this will mean record gas and electricity bills will take up a huge proportion out of their household budgets."
