Dunne Comments on Chancellor’s September Statement

I was in the Chamber today to listen to Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng’s fiscal statement. He has been in post for only two and a half weeks and yet made one of the most radical statements on fiscal policy during my time in Parliament.

This is a major package of measures designed to stimulate growth in the economy through supply-side reform and encouraging entrepreneurial activity and private sector investment through tax changes and regulatory reform across the UK. I have been impressed by the pace and decisive nature of the steps taken by the new administration under Liz Truss. She clearly recognises the need to help contain energy cost rises for households and businesses, which should lead through to reducing inflation expectations which will help the whole economy.

I look forward to playing my part in helping stimulate business growth and supporting people in South Shropshire manage our way through this challenging time. I have been pressing the case with the newly appointed Ministers, in particular helping households who are not on the gas grid.
