Philip Dunne welcomes policy change to ensure all school buses in the county will be fitted with seat-belts.Philip Dunne MP for Ludlow, commented on today's decision by Shropshire County Council to change the policy inherited from the previous administration (Labour/LibDem) to ensure all school buses in the county will be fitted with seat-belts.

The issue was first raised with Mr Dunne by parents from villages around Worthen in the Ludlow constituency. Their children were travelling on school buses of sufficient age that no seat belts were fitted, as this was not a legal requirement. They were concerned for safety of their children, in particular given the undulating and winding roads on the route from south-west Shropshire to Mary Webb School in Pontesbury (route number 1075).

"I joined a meeting last autumn with worried parents at Worthen school so that they could raise their concerns directly with local councillors and County Council transport officers. I am delighted that the issue has been properly addressed by the Council and congratulate all involved in amending the Council's policy to ensure the highest safety standards apply to transport for children and young people in Shropshire."
