On the day the Government's Stern report into the economic consequences of climate change was published, Philip Dunne, MP for Ludlow, backed a new campaign to put pressure on Tony Blair to include a proper Climate Change Bill in next month's Queen's Speech.

This campaign was launched after the Prime Minister failed to confirm in the Commons that he will include a Climate Change Bill in his new legislative programme - despite being asked to do so twice by David Cameron only last week.

Meanwhile, a new "Can I have the Bill please?" website has been launched to back up the challenge to Government. It emphasises the need for clearly directed legislation, and allows concerned members of the public to join the campaign.

Mr Dunne said: "You can send your own personal message to Mr Blair on climate change.

Despite a huge campaign endorsed by everyone from Friends of the Earth to the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, Tony Blair has failed to confirm that he will include a Climate Change Bill in his new legislative programme.

The Government has been long on rhetoric but short on action. Carbon emissions have risen since 1997. Green taxes have fallen as a proportion of tax receipts since 1997.

We need real action with year-on-year targets to tackle real problems if we are to have any hope of reducing emissions of carbon dioxide by 60 per cent before 2050.

I urge any of my constituents who care for the lives of our future generations to go on the website and join the campaign. We must act now before it is too late."
