Philip Dunne, Conservative spokesman for Ludlow, wants people to realise the impact they can have in the fight against crime.

He said: "Your call could save lives. It could prevent a serious assault. It could remove another drug dealer off the streets.

"If you know someone who has committed a crime, ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You will not be asked your name. Your call will not be traced, and you may get a reward.

"People who ring Crimestoppers play a major part in helping the police in tackling crime."

A UK-wide gun crime campaign will be launched during the week with hard-hitting literature. It will reinforce the message that people can stop the use of illegal guns by passing information to Crimestoppers, anonymously and without fear of reprisal.

The Crimestoppers number is 0800 555 111. More information about the campaign is at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
