Last week the Conservatives rewrote the script at their Party Conference. Pundits had predicted problems, instead they found energy, enthusiasm and even electricity in the air.

The buzz word was buzz itself. This was my fifth conference and by far the most uplifting. There was a sense of purpose amongst all the delegates - everyone wanted to hear the Leadership contenders.

The over-riding impression was one of positive renewal. Even critical commentators could not help notice.

There is no doubt that the Conservatives have much to do. Few punches were pulled about the scale of this task. But it was clear from all the Leadership speeches and those from others who are not contenders, like William Hague, that there is a unity of purpose and breadth of vision which can appeal well beyond our core vote.

We have a team at the top, full of talent and drive, whoever emerges as Leader.

I am interested in the views of my electorate before declaring my support for any of the candidates. So letters are going out to all who voted in the Ludlow constituency, for whatever party, asking who they think should lead the Conservatives.

The responses will inform, but not dictate, my decision. This will be the largest poll of public opinion in the country on this issue. Please participate - please send your form back promptly.
