Cold Weather Payments triggered in South Shropshire

Eligible residents in South Shropshire will receive Cold Weather Payments due to the recent cold snap affecting the area.

Cold Weather Payments of £25 are made to recipients of selected benefits. To trigger the payments, the average temperature at a specified weather station must be recorded as, or forecast to be, 0°C or below for seven consecutive days.

Postcode affected for the period 13/01/2024 to 19/01/2024 in South Shropshire are:

SY7, SY9, LD7

Cold weather payments may be made to recipients of Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit or Support for Mortgage Interest.

Local MP, Philip Dunne, said:

“The recent cold snap in South Shropshire has triggered Cold Weather Payments of £25 for those eligible on selected benefits, helping to cover the additional cost of heating. Cold Weather Payments are made automatically to those eligible, so there is no need to apply.”
