As many as 10,000 households in the Ludlow constituency will be eligible for help from the the Digital Switchover Help Scheme according to data released by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in response to a Parliamentary Question from Philip Dunne MP.

The Help Scheme, which aims to ensure that everyone can benefit from digital switchover, will provide practical support to help people select, install and use digital TV equipment. Where necessary this may include the provision of a set top aerial or a rooftop aerial upgrade.

If you are aged 75 years old or over, or have a significant disability (you receive either Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance), or are registered partially sighted, you will be given special support. Altogether, it is estimated that 59,000 people throughout Shropshire will be able to seek help.

Mr Dunne said: "When the digital switchover begins in 2008 it is likely that the elderly and most vulnerable in society may not be able to afford to make the necessary changes to their equipment. This is why it is so important that everyone who is eligible to get help from the Digital Switchover Help Scheme does so."
