South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne has welcomed latest figures showing rising wages and joint record high employment.
The Office for National Statistics confirmed the employment rate is at a joint record high, including record full time employment, and there are more people than ever before with a full-time job. Wages have also grown at their fastest pace for more than 11 years and have risen ahead of prices for 18 consecutive months.
The Resolution Foundation also found that the proportion of jobs that are low paid is at the lowest level since 1986 thanks in part to the introduction of the National Living Wage.
Mr Dunne said: “These latest figures showing record employment and rising wages are welcome, helping more families make ends meet and keep more of the money they earn.
It is only with a thriving economy that we can afford to invest more in our public services, like 20,000 more police officers, more funding for schools and making sure people see more investment in the front line of our NHS.”
