The new Prime Minister has made clear his intent for the UK to leave on the 31st October whatever the circumstances. The Article 50 process has already been extended on two occasions and I believe that further extension would be deeply regrettable, and should only be sought in the event there is a realistic prospect of securing a deal with the EU.
Brexit will be the defining issue for the government to resolve in coming months. It is right to be properly prepared for all scenarios, but I retain concerns about the impact of a No Deal exit. So I sincerely hope a deal can be done before October 31st, so that we can get on and tackle the important domestic priorities which the new government is keen to pursue.
