MP presents long service awards at Clun British Legion
Philip Dunne MP was on hand last month to celebrate the distinguished service of many members of the Clun Branch of the Royal British Legion. Long service awards were presented to poppy collectors: Florence Hughes for 50 years collecting, Olive Payne for 25 years, Edna Lewis for 20 years, Jean Rudd for 15 years, Susan Morris for 25 years collecting.
In addition, presentations were made to two members, Col Raymond Savill and Mr Brian Morgan on reaching their 90th birthdays as members of the branch.
Mr Dunne said: “I am proud to be a member of the Clun Branch of the RBL which has many long serving members, including the annual poppy collectors who raise over £5,000 each year from the local community. It was an honour to be on hand to celebrate their service to the Legion and to congratulate some of its oldest but still active members on reaching their 90th Birthday including Mrs Patti Wheeler who was absent due to injury.”
Branch President Bob Jameson said: “We were delighted to welcome our local MP, a member of our branch for several years, to officiate at our ceremony before Christmas. The branch continues to thrive and we have regular meetings but are always keen to recruit new members of all ages. Anyone interested should contact: Bob Jameson on 01588 640749 or email bob.jameson6@googlemail.com, a service background is not essential.
