EU Sugar Regime
Philip Dunne asks the Environment Secretary about the proposed reforms to the EU sugar regime14.
Mr. Dunne: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs if she will make a statement on the implications for the British sugar industry of the European Commission's proposals for reform of the EU sugar regime. [10121]
Margaret Beckett: The Commission's proposals are a step change towards removing the market distortions which stop UK processors and growers benefiting from their relative efficiency and comparative advantage. The package includes a voluntary restructuring scheme and decoupled support payments to help in the adjustment process.
