Dunne concerned over Bishops Castle hospital works
Philip Dunne MP expressed dismay at news that work had stopped on the Community Hospital at Stone House in Bishop's Castle following difficulties for the building contractor.
He said today: "I was informed yesterday that work on the hospital redevelopment at Bishop's Castle had stopped and merchants were reclaiming their delivered goods.
I contacted Shropshire County PCT for clarification."
The PCT has issued the following statement:
'We have not received any official notification of issues with the contractor for the redevelopment of Bishop's Castle Hospital, but we have been working to clarify the position, and our priority is to make sure the hospital scheme is completed successfully.'
Mr Dunne added: "I am concerned if the contractor is unable to continue this vital work. Not only is Galliers one of the larger local building contractors active in south Shropshire, so there will be many Shropshire people fearful for their livelihoods; but also of course the hospital provides a vital service for the local community. Redevelopment was progressing well with the final stage due for completion this Spring.
I urge the PCT to get to grips with its options as soon as possible to ensure as little extra time and cost is incurred as possible in getting this important community hospital back into full service for local residents."
