Dunne comments on latest unemployment figures
Local MP Philip Dunne today expressed concern at the rise in the number of people unemployed in the Ludlow constituency in December.
Figures published at 09.30 this morning by the Office for National Statistics show that the number of unemployed claimants in Ludlow constituency in December 2009 was 1,133. This represents a rate of 3.1% of the economically active population.
The number of claimants is 284 higher than in December 2008 and 15 higher than in November 2009.
Mr Dunne commenting said:
"Whilst in recent months we have seen a small decline in the number of those claiming Job Seekers Allowance in the constituency, this rise, albeit a small one shows that the economic downturn is still affecting local people's lives and jobs.
I encourage the Government to adopt Conservative measures to get Britain back to work, to provide real help to small businesses and to cut the deficit to place our economy on a more sound footing for the future."
